![]() Many thanks for any help that can be provided. The RAM is brand new DDR3 1333 MHz.Ĭan anybody come up with a possible cause for this other than a defective motherboard? Could I have hurt something trying to connect the internal speaker (connected backwards?)? I have worn an anti static wrist band with the power supply off (but plugged in) at any time when I was working on the system. I have also tried a different graphics card and still just a black screen. All the board LED's light up, but occasionally the VGA LED will stay lit - I have tested the graphics card in another system and it appears to work fine. I have also waited several minutes for the system to start, with no results. I have tried clearing the BIOS/CMOS and disconnected the hard drives and optical drives, keeping only the essential components connected. after this point, I have seen only a blank screen when trying to start the system. Later, having noticed that the internal speaker that came with the mobo had not been installed, I attempted to connect this speaker. After assembly, I booted the machine and installed windows 8, and proceeded to reboot a few times that same day. So far nothing, but from the sounds of it, can be a very small brown speck, which makes it difficult to find.īut thank you everyone for the suggestions :) They are just waiting on me to be able to look at it now lol (Hate tech support over the phone.I like having the computer sitting in front of me.I have recently put together a system with the ASUS M5A99x EVO R2.0 board, with an MSI graphics card and Corsair RAM. I'm hoping it's not a motherboard problem.Power supplies are cheaper than motherboards lol I am not saying it is the case with your board, but if the fans are doing the full speed action upon cold boot with no post, this is a pretty good indicator of something deeper than a few loose cables. It turned out to be a bad batch of mainboards that missed the QC of things. It wasn't a recoverable thing on our end and we ended up getting factory mainboard replacements. It turned out that the mainboard was the root of the problem with a bad controller on it. We jokingly call it the self clean mode as it pushes dust out fast. System would be fine, next power up randomly, it would not POST or do anything else, but the fans would go into a high speed mode making the tower sound like a wind tunnel. Not that this would be the same for your computer, but at my job, we had a bad run of HP's that would do the same thing with their fans. And before they have to spend some $80 for a power supply (Current one is 750W), I was hoping someone else would have some other suggestions for them to try, to confirm that it is a power supply. My thought is the power supply is screwing up, but they don't have an extra one to test it with. It beeps when there is no ram, so I'm hoping that's a good sign. And I can't help her with that, since she is visiting with her dad out of town. She isn't comfortable with unplugging everything on the inside. ![]() The computer was dusted out, though it was already pretty clean to begin with. The keyboard and mouse don't receive power. She also checked all the cables and everything. I also had her remove the BOIS battery for 1 minute, and replace it. She also unplugged everything on the outside. I had her remove all the ram, and try to start the computer. The fans actually go crazy, spinning at full force. The lights would come on, the fans would spin (case fan, cpu fan, power supply fan, video card fan). Wife was using the computer when it suddenly froze.
